WHO ARE WE?
St. Clair County Genealogy and History Society (SCCGHS) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 1978 as St. Clair County Family History Group, Inc. St. Clair County is located in the lower “Thumb” of Southeast Michigan. We promote and share the rich genealogical and historical importance of our region thru meetings, workshops, field trips, seminars, social media, and the distribution of a quarterly newsletter. Members also research and document local records and history, hoping to preserve and perpetuate genealogical and historical records. To further accomplish these goals, we support the Michigan Room of the St. Clair County Library, by compiling and sharing matters of genealogical interest. Additionally, to enhance member skills and provide networking opportunities, the Society is a member of the Michigan Genealogical Council (To access their sites, click the logos below)
OUR PURPOSE
1. To be an organization exclusively historical and/or educational within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
2. To preserve and perpetuate the records of our ancestors and of the founders of our commonwealth;
3. To compile, prepare, publish and preserve material of genealogical and/or historical significance; including the promotion of such in a quarterly newsletter.
4. To create interest and aide individual members of the Society, and the general public, in the compilation of their genealogies;
5. To cooperate with other genealogical and historical societies, and particularly, to aid and assist the St. Clair County Main Library, Michigan Room with matters of genealogical interest;
6. To sponsor and encourage educational courses and activities in genealogy and history.
HOW WE CONTRIBUTE
Our Society purchases and donates genealogical material and books to the Michigan Room of the St. Clair County Library. In addition, we donate copies of our published genealogical materials to the State of Michigan Library and Archives. We also support various community events to publicize and encourage genealogy.
